Wolfgang Gallery announcementAineki employs the rhetoric of painting to articulate a personal narrative rooted in poetics and impossibility. Aineki's filmmaking background provides a conceptual and material foundation for a phenomenological approach to painting, in which site-specific installations serve as allusions to the gaze, the lens, architectural space, and situational aesthetics. The iconography in the paintings is derived from a personal archive that includes inherited and found materials, the foundation of which relies on thousands of family photos that span generations and homelands and contain multitudes of histories, memories, and fantasies.

Drawing inspiration from the myth of Narcissus, the exhibition delves into themes of observation, reflection, and performance. Narcissus’ Pagoda is an architectural dialogue between the subject and observer that focuses on a body of water that captures an unobtainable image. In this exhibition, the surface of the water serves as a lens, material, and performance object. Within the gallery lies an on-site pagoda structure to serve as an allegory and vessel. Inside, a reflection allows for a deeply personal act of looking that bridges autobiography, perspective, and situational experience.

The Middle Distance

SITE at Goat Farm, Atlanta, GAThe Middle Distance is a painting installation that highlights landscapes and flora as they exist within the urban. This project is a site-specific iteration of this concept in my practice, focusing on the human’s role within, around, and as part of nature. The atypically placed viewfinder, used to view a pastoral, figurative oil painting, addresses art historical themes of voyeurism, the fantastical, accessibility, gentrification and urban development, and environmental concerns. This project is supported in-part through an investment from IDEA CAPITAL, a community-based pool of funds created by and for the Atlanta arts community.&#38;nbsp;[Watch a video of the installation in practice here]

These small paintings on paper are part of a daily practice. Every day upon entering the studio, I begin and resolve at least one work with neither reference nor intent. This is my form of drawing and also serves as a warmup before jumping into a larger painting. When I install these works, I mount them and use a custom cleating system to hang them in a horizontal line across a wall that calls to my passion for both film and landscape.&#38;nbsp;

Swan Coach House Gallery
2024 Edge Award Exhibition,&#38;nbsp;Atlanta, GALacuna is a term used to label a gap, a missing part, or an unfilled space, most commonly in manuscripts. In a broader context, it also represents an absence in memory, experience, or understanding of personal and/or cultural narratives.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Drawing upon inherited materials such as family photographs, letters, memoirs, and digital documents, I use the rhetoric of painting to investigat extremes, banalities, emotions, losses, ﻿and curiosities. I both mourn and celebrate ancestors of the past, occurrences in the present, and events yet to come, blurring the lines between subjective reality, memory, and dreamscape.

Through painting and installation, a specific time and location is recreated within a domestic setting using fragmented bodies and abstracted, dreamlike scapes to convey a sense of nostalgia for a place that no longer exists."I grew up on the seventh floor of a building in Washington, DC. I slept among the plants in my mother's garden in our living room, which became my Eden above the city. Staring out the window through the leaves, I imagined my body floating through the sky and over the city. I would caress the plants, who were my friends, and whisper, I miss the ground, too."
